How to Open BitLocker Encrypted Hard Drive/USB/SD Card on macOS & Mac OS X


”One week ago, I bought a MacBook Pro and I want to copy files from a drive with BitLocker onto my MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, I was unable to open this BitLocker encrypted drive on Mac OS. How do I open BitLocker encrypted drive on Mac? Can anyone recommend the best way for me to open BitLocker encrypted drive and copy files to the Mac? Please help me!”
I have to clearly say that BitLocker encrypted drive can’t be accessed directly from Mac, because Microsoft hasn’t implemented BitLocker for Mac OS, BitLocker Drive Encryption is Microsoft’s full-disk Encryption software for Windows operating system, we can’t open BitLocker encrypted drive on macOS & Mac OS X.
To open BitLocker drive on the Mac, we have to use third-party tool such as iSumsoft BitLocker Reader for Mac. BitLocker Reader for Mac is an easy-to-use software. It is used to open, access and read/write BitLocker encrypted drive, including a Hard Drive, USB Flash Drive, SD Card, and etc., on your Mac. With this software, you can easily open BitLocker drive on Mac and then copy files from BitLocker encrypted drive. Below we will explain in detail how to use BitLocker Reader for Mac to open the BitLocker encrypted drive on Mac.

·         Correct BitLocker password or recovery key file

Steps to open BitLocker encrypted Hard Drive/USB/SD Card on macOS & Mac OS X

Step 1: Download the iSumsoft BitLocker Reader for Mac utility and install it on your Mac computer. After installation is complete, open the Launchpad and run the BitLocker Reader for Mac.
Step 2: Insert the BitLocker drive and click Ignore button if it displays the error ”The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer”.



Step 3: Choose the BitLocker drive and click Unlock button.



Step 4: Type the password for the BitLocker disk and click the Mount button to unlock BitLocker encrypted drive or check the Use key file box, click the Open button to import the recovery key file into the utility, and click the Mount button.



Step 5: After BitLocker encrypted drive is mounted and unlockedsuccessfully, you can see an icon of the drive appearing on your Mac’s desktop.


Step 6:Click the icon on your Mac’s desktop to open the drive, now you can copy files from BitLocker encrypted drive on macOS & Mac OS X.
